.valle de las palmas

This weekend we went for a calm picnic and a walk to Valle de las Palmas, not far from Tijuana. We took some food, our cameras along with our backpacks and gear and totally forgot to take a thermo filled with coffee. Still, it was a good sunday.

It’s been raining all day today {yesterday too} and it’s great. Bad news is that i ran out of coffee yesterday and it’s been all tea today. I like tea, too, but i crave coffee more in this kind of weather.
I’ve been quiet lately, here and everywhere, and it’s because i’ve had a lot on my mind and my heart that it has overwhelmed me. Maybe it’s a phase i’m going through with the whole turning 27 in a few weeks or maybe it’s just me.

We haven’t had our first weekend walk of the year which we have planned for this weekend. Waking up saturday early, making a quick yet hardy breakfast, hot coffee and picking up friends to go walking. I love our weekend walks because it’s a way we unwind after the whole work week, we disconnect a few hours and just think of what’s in front of us, breathe fresh air and talk all the way about anything and everything while having a gorgeous view anywhere we look.
Ulises wants to make a few maps of the usual trails we hike with photos and all but still hasn’t decided how to do it and share it but when he does, i’ll let you all know, if anyone’s interested.

These photos above are from our trip to the Laguna Hanson last October. It’s freezing up there right now, with regular tons of snow. I’ve never been there this time of the year but it sure would be fun if i have the proper clothing and equipment/car not to freeze or get stranded hehe.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

A few shots from a walk in september.
I just got a bunch of rolls back from the developer and i made a note to myself to remember never to buy cheap film again, it’s not my favorite.

So, i’ve had a few crap weeks and i’ve been trying to keep busy so i don’t get caught up in it all. Hope everyone {in the US} had a good long thanksgiving weekend, and everyone else, like me, a good regular two day weekend.
It’s a bit chilly in Tijuana now, it’s starting to feel like winter now and that’s ok with me, i like the layering put-a-ton-of-clothes part of it, that and baking. Yum. Happy sunday.

So, once we found a place to set up camp, a place a little far away from the entrance of the park so we have a quiet time, we lit the fire and prepared soup and coffee to ease the cold.

Next morning we didn’t want to get up because it was still very cold.
We made breakfast and then it was off to explore all day.

We went camping over the weekend to a beautiful place up in the mountains here in Baja California, not far from Ensenada, called Parque Nacional Constitución de 1857 [translation: Constitution of 1857 National Park] and inside the park there’s a lake called Lake Hanson. It’s a 4 hour drive from Tijuana and a quite lovely drive actually. We almost didn’t go because of problems with the car we were taking but my brother ended up saving our weekend and let us borrow his! I love love my brother. We hit the road late but were so happy to just get the trip started.

When we hit the road, we saw what looked like smoke in the sky towards Ensenada, the direction we were heading. Once we were closed, we realized that something big was burning and then we saw what it was..

The mountains were on fire! We had some santa ana winds a few days before and that might have caused the fire, we didn’t really know for sure.

On the way, we needed to stop for fire wood and were so very lucky to stumbled upon a small store on the side of the road that sold it. We also got some locally made cheese which was amazing and i regret not getting more to bring home! Next time we will.

one of the ranger's offices

When we got there, it was just as i remember. We had to set up camp quick because we got to the park late and had little sun light left. Once we registered at the ranger’s office, we went to find a good camping spot and light up a fire to cook dinner and get warm up because the temperature was dropping fast.
I’ll share more photos from that night and day two.
Hope you have a good night. It’s almost friday!.

Amo a mi hermano!

A few more from the weekend walk. Its so surprising and incredible to still find some untouched {mainly} places in Tijuana. This plateau isn’t even very far from where we live, it’s maybe a 20 minute drive to the hillside and we left the car parked in a nearby borough and started walking from there.
